The Students With Additional Needs Network (SWANN) is a new cross-campus network that was created by the UUSU and student council between 2022-2023. Its main purpose is to create a space where students with additional needs, whether visible or invisible can socialise, raise issues and lobby for change.
Its purpose is to connect, support and represent students with additional needs throughout their time here. It is a place where students will have the chance to be a part of fabulous social activities and events, that can be as chill as a pizza night to make friends and socialise, to running larger cross campus events to have a push for change and awareness.
Another big part of SWANN is to create real change, from how accessible the everyday classroom is to how the University runs its daily business, there is no limit to what you can do. For change to happen there must be the student voice pushing and lobbying for change. And that’s what SWANN was created to do, to push for policy change, to create more accessible campuses, to allow for all students to have the best experience possible.
