This is official notice that Ulster University Students’ Union (UUSU) will be holding a referendum on our membership of NUS-USI, as per the following details:
UUSU shall be affiliated jointly to the National Union of Students of the United Kingdom (NUS UK) and the Union of Students in Ireland (USI) and shall pay such affiliation fees as are democratically decided by NUS UK and USI. This affiliation shall be put to a Referendum at least every three years or at the request of Student Council having passed a motion to that effect.
In line with UUSU’s bye laws and articles of association any referendum must reach a quoracy level of 3% of members, therefore the quoracy level in this referendum shall be 823 votes. The vote to retain membership will be a simple majority in favour of the question. A majority vote against the question will result in disaffiliation.
This is subject to the quoracy being met, in the result of the quorum not being met, the status quo will be retained.
Question
The question for the referendum shall be as follows:
Should Ulster University Students’ Union (UUSU) remain affiliated with the National Union of Students – Union of Students in Ireland (NUS-USI)?
We will be calling for lead campaigners very soon to make the case for both the Yes and No stances. If you want to know more about what this means, get in touch with our Campaigns Coordinator Rosie at s.mckenna@ulster.ac.uk
