What is Model United Nations?

Ulster University Model United Nations (MUN) is a simulation of the real United Nations, where students take on the roles of delegates representing different countries. In MUN, participants discuss, negotiate on pressing global issues, and draft resolutions to promote peace and cooperation. It’s a platform for learning among nations.  About international relations, diplomacy, and the art of negotiation.

Why Join UUMUN?

Participating in Ulster University’s Model United Nations offers a unique opportunity to:

  • Enhance Public Speaking and Debate Skills: Practice articulating your ideas, presenting arguments, and debating global issues in a supportive environment.
  • Build Global Awareness: Gain more profound knowledge of international issues, such as human rights, environmental protection, global health, and economic development.
  • Develop Leadership and Negotiation Skills: Experience real-world diplomacy, where you'll work with other “delegates” to draft resolutions and seek consensus.
  • Network and Meet New People: Connect with like-minded students, develop friendships, and attend MUN conferences in other cities or countries.

How Does UUMUN Work?

As a member of UUMUN, you will:

  1. Prepare – Research the country you’ll represent, understand its policies, and study the issues to be discussed.
  2. Simulate – Act as a delegate in mock UN sessions, defending your country’s position, negotiating with other delegates, and working together to draft solutions (Or Resolutions).
  3. Engage – Attend regular meetings, workshops, and events by UUMUN to help you develop your skills.
  4.

Do you know who can join?

UUMUN is open to all students at Ulster University, regardless of your background or field of study. Whether you’re interested in international relations, public policy, law, or history or want to build your skills, there’s a place for you here.
