Join Doc Soc's Clare Rhine for Cross Stitch, Embroidery, or both in our Craft Session StitchED especially for PhDs! Join us for a mental health break, try out a new craft, or pick an old one up again! Sponsored by UBelong.

Whether you're picking up a needle for the first time or honing your stitching prowess, there's a level for you! StitchEd participants will receive a craft kit with everything they need to create a Cross Stitch Mini Masterpiece or Blackwork design with instructions and in-person guidance from our in-house expert!

 

What is Cross Stitch? 

Cross Stitch is a form of embroidery that involves creating intricate patterns by stitching X-shaped stitches onto fabric. A centuries-old craft, Cross Stitch is now cherished for its therapeutic qualities. The repetitive motion of stitching promotes mindfulness, relaxation, and reduces stress, making it an ideal outlet for creative expression and self-care.

 

What is Blackwork?

Blackwork embroidery is a timeless needlework technique characterised by its delicate patterns stitched in black thread on white or neutral-coloured fabric. Originating in the Medieval Era, this art form has endured the ages , and has captivated enthusiasts with its simple yet striking design.
