How standing works

Applications aren’t open yet, but the process is simple. Whether you’re running for a paid full-time role or a part-time rep role, it usually looks like this:

1

Explore the roles

Find the one that matches your interests, strengths, or the change you want to make.

2

Fill in a short online form

When nominations open, tell us who you are and what you’d like to stand for.

3

Share why you care

A short statement about the difference you want to make (max 300 words).

4

Campaign (don’t worry, we’ll support you!)

Training, templates, and guidance to help you run a positive, impactful, ethical campaign.

5

Students vote

Your peers have their say. The candidates with the most votes are elected.

Why students stand

Students put themselves forward for lots of reasons:

To improve student life

To stand up for their community

To build confidence and leadership experience

To influence decisions that shape studies, facilities, and wellbeing

To work with University leadership

To gain skills and experiences employers value

To challenge themselves (in a supportive environment)

You don’t need any experience – just enthusiasm and ideas.
We’ll help you with everything else.
