For Course Reps & Student Councillors

Here’s what to do next! Firstly, do not let an election put you off. Having a democratic process behind the rep structure and UUSU council gives all students a voice in deciding who their representatives are. We will provide all the guidance and support you will need and aim to keep the process as simple and as accessible as possible. Use the links on this page to find out more and to submit your nomination(s).

In partnership with your University we have a valued and responsive structure of academic representation.
Guided by our UU/UUSU Student Voice Framework, elected student reps represent the collective student opinion on everything impacting on your learning experience.
Reps meet with staff, sit on committees and communicate widely to feedback on the learning experiences at Ulster, which helps to extend student opinion beyond surveys.

UUSU is your Students’ Union and as a democratic organisation we don’t make decisions behind closed doors.
Your say matters and you drive the type of union you want to see, whether that is on sporting matters, societies, campaigns – on any issue that affects your university experience.
At our core is Student Council – it’s the boss. This is the group of elected students that decides on what stance the Union takes on issues such as Brexit, Marriage Equality and climate change.
Your elected officers report to Council so that you can influence and have input into what they are doing on your behalf. Council also appoints students to influential committees such as the University Senate and Societies Management Committee that grants funding to societies across the University.

With over 800 course reps spanning campuses, faculties and online learners, this next level of student representation leads the student voice at a School or Department level.
Having already gained experience as course rep, School/Department reps provide a broader view of the student experience at Ulster.
They meet with staff and their Students’ Union to progress issues past course level and proactively find resolutions and improvements to the student learning experience.
