UUSU Shark Tank Finalists Revealed

UUSU Shark Tank 2018 took place on Friday 9th March. 12 student start ups pitched to a panel of judges for the chance to win £2,000. We can now reveal the top 3 progressing to the final.

On Friday 9th March Ulster University student start ups pitched their ideas, innovations and inventions to a panel of Sharks on Ulster University Belfast campus. The UUSU Shark Tank competition received applications ranging from innovative software solutions to solar powered accessories and gadgets. Students from across all Ulster University campuses pitched to the panel of sharks to win the £2,000 prize on offer. 

The panel of sharks consisted of: Jennifer McWilliams; Chief Executive at Antrim Enterprise Agency, JP Irvine; Director at Keystone Law, Nancy Brown; Manager of Belfast Enterprise Academy and Lecturer at Ulster University Business School, Kyle Gawley; CEO at Get Invited a previous Ulster University start up and Jonathan Wallace Professor of Innovation at Ulster University.

​The judges were extremely impressed at the level of entrepreneurial talent and ambition demonstrated by all the contestants and after a passionate debate in the tank they finally agreed on their top three.

​In no particular order the three finalists of UUSU Shark Tank 2018 are:

Commenting on the competition, Enterprise and Entrepreneurship Manager, Chris Shannon, stated: 'UUSU Shark Tank is a new student enterprise competition launched this year by Ulster University Students' Union. Both myself and the sharks are really impressed by the level of innovative thinking and business acumen demonstrated on the day. With students participating from across all four Ulster University campuses, the twelve start ups are a fantastic example of the entrepreneurial talent that is supported and nurtured at Ulster University.'
