This week UUSU will be showing you how to Rent Right. We know how daunting it can be moving into rented accommodation, especially if it’s your first time. From signing contracts, finding the perfect housemates or even knowing if your house is a HMO or not. So we want to give you the tools to not only talk the talk when it comes to renting but walk the walk.
We have lots going on during the week and you can keep an eye out for our Students Union team who will be wearing “Rent Right” T-shirts and ask them what’s going on that day on your campus. We will even have the Tenancy deposit scheme an organisation that protects over a million deposits from being lost or unfairly withheld from tenants on campus all week to let you the students have the opportunity to find out your rights as a tenant.
We have Housing Rights training happening on our Belfast and Magee campus which is open for all students! This is a two hour course delivered by Housing Rights NI which will give you knowledge about your rights when it comes to Renting. If you are interested in signing up contact firstname.lastname@example.org
We will also be launching our “Rate What You Rent” Survey Rate what you Rent is a scheme that offers students a platform to talk about their housing experiences in private rented accommodation. The aim of this survey is to find out the positives and negatives of renting private accommodation, so that we can celebrate or tackle the main themes that come up. Your survey will be anonymous and the data will not be linked be back to you if we use it.
So get involved and get renting right! If you want to know more about the campaign contact your Campus Vice President.
